Brews (& Bingos) for Bats - A GREAT SUCCESS

7/12/2016

GHCAAZK hosts many local events that help save animals in the wild both locally and globally.

We partnered with Whole Foods, Freetail Brewery and Bat Conservation International to host our inaugural Brews (& Bingo) for Bats event Friday, July 8, 2016 with proceeds going to Bat Conservation International to help save bats in the wild.

We sold Brews for Bats pint glass, took donations for bingo cards and Whole Foods had Freetail beer on tap. As always, when planning any event, we were nervous that it wouldn't be as successful as we hoped it would be. Well, the event surpassed all our expectations!
People continued to line up and kept pulling more and more tables onto the Whole Foods patio. Definitely, a great problem to have, I say.  I lost count after 150 people!

Whole Foods hosted the event at their Waugh location, which proved to be invaluable. After the bingo event, the guests walked to see the emergence at the Waugh bridge.  They were also able to enjoy educational bat chats given by our local bat master naturalists.

Scott from Freetail brought some great swag to contribute to the bingo prizes & trivia questions and has the greatest bingo caller voice. Jessalyn from BCI had a fantastic informational table with giveaways to help educate guests about bats and conserving them and their ecosystems help ensure a healthy planet.  Diana Foss, an urban wildlife biologist from TWPD was able to join us with other local bat master naturalists including the Houston Zoo's very own Suzanne Jurek to also spread the message.

We are so thankful for everyone who helped plan, worked and attended the event.  GHCAAZK would like to extend a special thank you to our neighboring AAZK chapters that attended the event: Galveston AAZK and the Baton Rouge Zoo AAZK.

Stay tuned! An event this successful is bound to trigger another one very soon!

Greatest fun fact I will always remember: I couldn't have my yummy tequila margaritas without bats!
