What we do to help. Many of the threats facing native animals in the greater Houston area are due to habitat loss and human encroachment. GHCAAZK members volunteer regularly at the Katy Prairie Conservancy to help rebuild prairie grass habitats for many of the native animals. To help our coastal neighbors like sea turtles and pelicans, we participate in at least 3 beach cleanups a year. The most imminent threat facing marine life is plastic pollution also know as marine debris. Sea turtles often mistake plastic bags in water for sea jellies which is part of their main diet.
